National Merit Semifinalists Announced
Congratulations to the 18 West Chester Area School District students who were named 2021 National Merit Semifinalists. The students join a nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of high school seniors, who scored the highest on the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in each state.

In addition, 17 students from all three high schools received Commended Status from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The East High School seniors who received Commended Status are Faraz Bootwala, Joseph Clark, Elizabeth Guan, Sophia Hermosillo-Ramirez, Sreekar Kunaparaju, Samuel Parnis, Michaela Schiele, and Alice Tran.
The Henderson High School seniors who received Commended Status are Jessica Buckley, Rohin Dasgupta, Sophia Griffin, Caroline Miller, Nolan Prochnau, Sophia Richardson, and Suprit Shadangi.
The Rustin High School seniors who received Commended Status are Ben Kiddie and Hayden Sommers.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered in the spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.
