- Penn Wood ES
- Principal
Dear Penn Wood Elementary Community,
-
It is with great pleasure that I am able to send this letter and introduce myself as principal of Penn Wood Elementary School! My diverse educational experiences will enable me to successfully lead our school community with innovative ideas and with a clear vision. I have over ten years of elementary teaching experience. Over the last five years I have been serving as an assistant principal at Avon Grove Intermediate School. James Comer’s quote, “No significant learning occurs without a significant relationship,” is a philosophical premise that is important to me. Relationships, student safety, core values, and lifelong learning are dynamic elements in an effective school community. We are embarking on an unprecedented year in education and want to make clear that I am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and community. My first official day will be August 31, 2020 as principal of Penn Wood Elementary School. I have been in continuous communication with West Chester Area School District’s administration team and Dr. Gacomis to ensure a smooth transition to begin the school year.
On a personal note, I love being a dad! I have two beautiful daughters that are going into fifth and third grade. My wife and I enjoy traveling, playing golf, and taking walks in the park with our dog Lola! I coach both my daughter’s lacrosse and field hockey teams and this past spring, I successfully defended my dissertation “Professional Learning Communities in an Elementary School: Teacher Perceptions, Implementation and Impacts,” at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
I absolutely love helping people and my door is always open! If you would like to contact me, I can be reached at 610-266-1900 or at email: mgarvin.
Go BEARS!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mike Garvin* All email addresses are the staff member’s username followed by @wcasd.net
