Attendance Policy

  •  Attendance Office:  484-266-3810 | EHSAttendance@wcasd.net

Course credit will be denied for those students who accrue more than 20 cumulative absences in a year-long course. Credit will also be denied for those students who accrue more than 10 cumulative absences in a semester course. Those students who miss more than the allotted days will earn the grade for the course, but not the credit.

Unlawful class absences due to truancy or cutting of class will result in an F grade for all class work missed that day.

The following absences count against the 20-day limit of cumulative absences:

PN          Any parent note - maximum of 10 allowed per year
CV          College visit - All students are allowed pre-approved college visits
FV          Family vacation - maximum of 5 days per year with administrator approval prior to absence
STD       Short term dismissal - 4 or less periods missed in one day
LAW       Unlawful absence - for students under 17 years
UNX       Unexcused absence - for students 17 years or older
    UNV       Unverified absence
    CUT       Truant absence

The following absences do NOT count against the 20-day limit of cumulative absences:

    DN          Doctor's note for illness
    RH          Religious holiday
    NN/NE     Nurse dismissal
DE          Death in family or funeral day
    SUS        External Suspension
    ACT        School activity

Parent notes are no longer accepted to excuse lateness from school. We accept 10 parent notes for absences from school due to illness. A student is allowed to enter school late 4 times during each semester before they are assigned a detention. After the fourth detention, students are required to attend a Saturday School.

If you have any questions regarding the attendance policy, please do not hesitate to contact your child's grade level administrator, counselor, caseworker, or the attendance officer.

You may also find high school attendance guidelines and definitions of cumulative and non-cumulative absences in your child's West Chester East High School School Course Planner/Assignment Book.
