ELL

  • The ELL (English Language Learner) Curriculum at Fugett Middle School is based on the National ELL Standards, the WIDA standards, and PDE's ELP standards. The primary goals of the program address the language needs of English Language Learners as related to instructional and assessment considerations that must be applied to ELL students to assure success in the content areas.

Students whose primary home language is other than English are evaluated upon entering Fugett. Those needing ELL services are scheduled according to need into either Direct ELL Instruction or Monitor Status. Direct ELL Instruction helps students acquire academic English skills as well as basic interpersonal communication skills so that they can successfully perform in the classroom. The instruction may include content area support that involves adapting or modifying the content materials to fit a student's English abilities. The progress of students who do not receive direct instruction is monitored by the ELL teacher.
