The WCASD offers two years of child development courses which are available to all high schools students. The course sequence is designed for the development of high school students as they focus on the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children.

The primary purpose for the course is to provide a group experience in which our high school students can implement child development learning objectives. Under supervision, high school students plan lessons and activities and also become familiar with the skills required for teaching young children. Students become skilled in reading stories and designing activities to enhance their learning. These experiences offer students a model from which they can learn and discuss real-life concepts related to the development of the child.

The child development program operates within each of our high schools for three days a week during the school year. The program enrolls about 16 children ages 3-5 at each high school with approximately 4-5 new children entering the program at each school yearly. The days and times of operation vary from school to school and year to year based on high school student enrollment in the courses, teaching assignments and schedules.
